National Protest Ride

We are holding our annual “Stop Fining Healthy Transport” ride in support of helmet law reform on Saturday 14th March.  This year, rides are planned for Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Canberra, Sydney and Hobart.
Please put the date in your calendar if you are able to participate.  Details of individual rides – start times, routes etc. will be circulated when finalised in the next few weeks.
Helmet laws continue to be a barrier to safe everyday cycling.  It is now almost thirty years since Australia went it alone on this one, and remains to this day the only place in the world where adults are regularly fined (and fined large sums) for practising this socially, environmentaly and personaly healthy form of transport.  We demand an end to this stupidity.
With the ACT now joining Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and WA in exempting anyone wearing religious headgear (e.g. Sikhs) from the requirement to wear a bike helmet, we will also be asking “If it’s safe for Sikhs, why is it not safe for everyone else? – or is this just religious discrimination?”
Please show that you care for a healthy and inclusive future, and join us on the 14th March.
